The Future of Universal Orlando: What’s Next for the Parks?

Universal is in a major growth era right now. Between the opening of Epic Universe in 2025, new attractions in development at Universal Studios Florida, and major closures happening around Islands of Adventure, there’s more speculation floating around than ever. As a longtime UOAP who basically treats the parks like a second home, I’m fascinated watching all of this unfold. So let’s talk about the rumors, the confirmed projects, and the big question everyone keeps asking: what do we actually want to see?

One of the biggest moves recently was the closure of the Lost Continent. Universal has officially walled off the Poseidon’s Fury area, which has only made the rumors louder. For years people have speculated that this land would eventually be replaced, and now that construction walls are up, it’s clear something is finally happening. The biggest theories so far are a Zelda themed land or a Wicked themed land. The Wicked rumors have grown even more since Universal debuted the Wicked walk through pop up experience. Zelda has also been one of the strongest fan requests for a long time, and the Lost Continent already gives off fantasy adventure vibes that could easily pivot into Hyrule. Seeing the aerial photos from construction trackers only fuels the curiosity. Whatever is coming, Universal definitely has plans.

Over at Epic Universe, rumors are swirling about a sixth world. Construction crews have already broken ground on a new section that was never part of the original map they released. Some fans think this could be where a Wicked themed land ends up instead of replacing something in IOA. Others think this mystery land could be themed to Lord of the Rings. A LOTR world would be a massive hit. The fan base is worldwide and extremely loyal, and the idea of stepping into Middle Earth would be a once in a lifetime experience for a lot of people, similar to Harry Potter. These rumors have me so excited to see what Universal still has up its sleeve.

Meanwhile at Universal Studios Florida, the next big shift is the replacement of Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. Universal confirmed a new coaster is coming to that space, and the speculation has been wild. Some fans are convinced we’re getting a Fast and Furious coaster similar to what Universal Hollywood has already done. Honestly, that’s the option I’m rooting for. Fast and Furious needs redemption after the current ride, and a high speed outdoor coaster could be that comeback. Other fans are pushing for a Ghostbusters attraction, especially since the franchise has been gaining momentum again. At this point it could go either way, and Universal has been keeping things quiet. That only makes it more fun to watch.

With so much happening at Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and Epic Universe all at once, it feels like we’re entering a new era of theme park development. Universal isn’t just refreshing small areas, they’re reshaping entire lands, adding whole new worlds, and building attractions that compete globally. It’s exciting to think about what this resort will look like in five years.

So the real question is this: with all these possibilities, what do you want to see? What should replace the Lost Continent? What theme would you want for the new coaster replacing Rip Ride Rockit? And what land would you want to see as the permanent addition to Epic Universe’s future expansion? There’s no wrong answer. This is the most exciting time to be a Universal fan, and we all have our own dream worlds. Tell me yours.

Until the next ride,
Geena
