Now that Halloween Horror Nights has officially wrapped up, I figured it was time for my hot take and it’s a big one. Coming from someone who loves Halloween, I actually hate going to Halloween Horror Nights. Yep, I said it.
Every year from about September through November 2nd, I avoid Universal completely. The hotels are insanely overpriced, the crowds are intense, and honestly, I just don’t see the appeal of paying to wait in line for hours only to be scared half to death. Personally, I’m a UOAP because I love riding rides and enjoying the park, not dodging chainsaws and jump scares. Most rides aren’t even open during HHN, and I can’t justify spending that much money for five minutes walking through a haunted house.
I know it’s a controversial opinion, but I’d rather keep my horror nights on Netflix. The only thing that almost tempted me to go this year was the “no scare” necklace, the one you can buy so scare actors won’t chase you or pop out at you (honestly, whoever came up with that deserves a raise). I was traumatized by a chainsaw guy when I was 20, and I’ve never fully recovered.

I will say, I did want to see the Death Eaters this year, that part looked incredible. But other than that? Yeah, I’m okay with skipping HHN.

It’ll be interesting to see how things change with Dark Universe right around the corner at Epic Universe next year. I have a feeling HHN might expand there too. If it does… I might have to suck it up and finally check it out. Might. 👀
That said, I hope those of you who do enjoy HHN had the best time during your visit! Everyone should experience the parks the way they love to, even if that means being scared out of your skin for funsies. Share some of your photos from HHN 2025 in the comments, I’d love to see them!
Now, on to Grinchmas!
